On the website, enter the Learning Locator number on your student’s AIMS student report to access learning materials mapped specifically to your student’s test results. Use of these materials should help your student be better prepared for the next AIMS testing opportunity. Winter Break begins at the conclusion of classes on December 22. Classes resume on Tuesday, January 10. The school office will be open during break for students enroll or re-enroll. The office will be closed on December 26 and January 2. Peoria Accelerated would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Two Peoria Accelerated High School team members had their lessons selected by the Arizona Department of Education and received an "ADE approved gold star icon". The lesson plans by Lisa Nahrgang and Amanda McClanahan, created during their participation in the AZTeach 21 class, will be published in the IDEAL Learning Research Manager. The Learning Resource Manager (LRM) is a searchable online database of curricular resources, including trade books, lesson plans, reading passages, media, examples, assessment items, and links to external web sites. Resources that display the "ADE Approved gold star icon" have been developed or reviewed by the Arizona Department of Education, have quality content, and are aligned to the Arizona Academic Standards. The Peoria Accelerated High School Cheerleaders competed at the 31st Annual Fiesta Bowl Cheer Championships on December 10, 2011. They won 1st place in the small cheer division with a squad of eight girls. They will be featured in the Fiesta Bowl parade on December 31, 2011 at 11:00 am on national television. The squad consists of Devin Harnois, Lindsey Burns, Esther James, Nicole Gillespie, Sonia Ruelas, and Taylor Eaves, captains are Meliaha Ballard and Angela Thomas. Coaches are Danielle Calderon and Pam Dinsmore. PAHS students Dylan Hudnell and Angela Thomas attended the PACE Conference in Peoria on November 17. Bring in your cans and non perishables to your second or fifth period teacher. The class with the most items donated wins a taco party! If we break the school record of 2,600 cans, PAHS will have a hat and jersey day! The 2011 Canned Food Drive is being coordinated by the PAHS Key Club and all collected items will be donated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. All cans must be turned in by Thursday, November 17. PAHS will be hosting Parent/Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, November 16 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and see our campus. Food will be provided. This meeting will showcase how PAHS spends our federal Title monies to ensure students are provided the best quality education. On October 29 and 30, Kiara Scrafano, Kat Muniz, and Tabitha Hillman attended the Junior State of America Fall Congress for the state of Arizona. This was Peoria Accelerated’s first ever JSA event. At the Fall Congress, students from Yuma, Miami, Hayden, Tucson, Nogales, and the Greater Phoenix area attended the event, along with a student delegation from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Students participated in a mock Congress where student written bills were debated on both in committee and on the floor of both the House of Representatives and Senate. Peoria Accelerated’s own Kiara Scrafano was selected by her peers in her House committee as best speaker. Congratulations Kiara. Peoria Accelerated has a fundraising event on 10/13/2011 at the Fresh and Easy located at 8365 West Camelback Road, Phoenix, AZ 85033. The event will start at 4:00 p.m. and conclude at 8:00 p.m. Peoria Accelerated will earn $1 for every $20 purchased at store. Come on out, support your school and get some groceries.
