Boys Basketball - Playoffs - February 24 02/21/2012
After defeating Desert Hills High School the boys basketball team has advanced to the semifinal round of the the playoffs. Their next game is on Friday, February 24 at 6:30 pm against Precision Hills High School. The game will be played at Phoenix College. Admission to the game is $5 for adults and $2 for students. Session One: May 31 - June 14 Session Two: June 15 - June 29 Students are able to participate in one class per session. Perfect attendance is required for students to receive .5 credit for a class. All students will receive a FREE breakfast and lunch daily. Classes are Monday-Friday. If a student misses more than one hour of any class for any reason, they will not be able to earn credit. No accommodations will be made. Do not sign up for classes if you know you have a prior appointment. Classes are from 8:00 AM - 1:50 PM. Each class will cost $75. This fee is non-refundable after the first hour of class, on the first day of the class. Any discipline issues will not be tolerated, and students will be removed without a refund. Penny War - Project Eliminate 02/09/2012
Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating - tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. Every $1.80 donated helps save 3 lives. PA Key Club is sponsoring a Penny War to raise money...all coins and bills will be accepted...any amount will help. Penny Wars Rules Dates: February 6-February 24 Pennies and Bills count as one point each: Penny = 1 point, $1.00 Bill= 100 points Silver Coins count as negative points: Nickel = -5 points, Dime = -10, Quarter = -25 Example: Jar has 100 pennies and $1 dollar bill in the jar total points is 200 points. If somebody puts in a quarter and dime. Score is now down to 165. Winner will receive a choice of: Pizza, Donut, or Popcorn Party. The spring Title 1 meeting will be held during Parent/Teacher conferences. To be eligible for a dinner ticket, parents must watch a short presentation hosted by Mrs. Nahrgang concerning our Title 1 program and best practices. On the website, enter the Learning Locator number on your student’s AIMS student report to access learning materials mapped specifically to your student’s test results. Use of these materials should help your student be better prepared for the next AIMS testing opportunity. Winter Break 12/21/2011
Winter Break begins at the conclusion of classes on December 22. Classes resume on Tuesday, January 10. The school office will be open during break for students enroll or re-enroll. The office will be closed on December 26 and January 2. Peoria Accelerated would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. 
PAHS staff members earn a gold star 12/16/2011
Two Peoria Accelerated High School team members had their lessons selected by the Arizona Department of Education and received an "ADE approved gold star icon". The lesson plans by Lisa Nahrgang and Amanda McClanahan, created during their participation in the AZTeach 21 class, will be published in the IDEAL Learning Research Manager. The Learning Resource Manager (LRM) is a searchable online database of curricular resources, including trade books, lesson plans, reading passages, media, examples, assessment items, and links to external web sites. Resources that display the "ADE Approved gold star icon" have been developed or reviewed by the Arizona Department of Education, have quality content, and are aligned to the Arizona Academic Standards. 
The Peoria Accelerated High School Cheerleaders competed at the 31st Annual Fiesta Bowl Cheer Championships on December 10, 2011. They won 1st place in the small cheer division with a squad of eight girls. They will be featured in the Fiesta Bowl parade on December 31, 2011 at 11:00 am on national television. The squad consists of Devin Harnois, Lindsey Burns, Esther James, Nicole Gillespie, Sonia Ruelas, and Taylor Eaves, captains are Meliaha Ballard and Angela Thomas. Coaches are Danielle Calderon and Pam Dinsmore.  PAHS students Dylan Hudnell and Angela Thomas attended the PACE Conference in Peoria on November 17. Canned Food Drive 11/15/2011
The Canned Food Drive is on! Bring in your cans and non perishables to your second or fifth period teacher. The class with the most items donated wins a taco party! If we break the school record of 2,600 cans, PAHS will have a hat and jersey day! The 2011 Canned Food Drive is being coordinated by the PAHS Key Club and all collected items will be donated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. All cans must be turned in by Thursday, November 17.  |
