The Peoria Poets are a group of students who gather together to write, revise, and “spit” their original poetry at local slam venues in the Phoenix and Glendale areas. Poetry slams allow a group of artists, singers, and writers to share with each other the issues closest to their hearts: everything from childhood experiences, relationships and breakups, injustice and the state of the world today—to their hopes and dreams for the futures. Peoria students share their work every third Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm in Room 104 of the Student Union Building at Glendale Community College, and at the Phoenix Center for the Arts every second Sunday from 6 to 9 pm. Slams are uncensored and open to the public. We would love to have you come support our young and amazing poets! As Slam Hosts describe, the only rule for the audience is “to suspend judgment and come with an open heart and mind to the uncensored mic.” Starting in mid-January, PAHS students will also have the opportunity to Skype into teen poetry writing workshops led by TWKO-founder Brandie MacDonald every Wednesday from 3 to 5 pm. Please see Miss Talamo in Room 119 if you are interested in joining the Peoria Poets or if you would like some feedback on a work-in-progress.
Herff Jones representative will be here on 01/14/14 at 11:00 to collect any orders and size for class rings.
